Job Description
Title: Executive Director
Staff Classification: Administrative Staff
Employee Definition: Full-Time Exempt Employee
Relationship: Report to the SUMA Board of Trustees
Population Served: Groups and Guests of Seashore United Methodist Assembly
Summary Description of Duties:
In an effort to help Seashore United Methodist Assembly to honor and adhere to the SUMA
Mission statement of providing a Christian Center for learning growth, and renewal, the
Executive Director ensures the development and implementation programs and facilities leading
to spiritual wholeness through seminars and/or retreats. The Executive Director reports directly
to the SUMA Board of Trustees.
Qualifications:
*Excellent Communication Skills.
*A person of sound Christian faith willing to share and witness to all who enter the
grounds of Seashore United Methodist Assembly.
*Support the basic beliefs of The United Methodist Church, and the Discipline of the
United Methodist Church.
*Familiar with the structure and polity of the United Methodist Church.
*Must be at least 21 years of age, having the ability to interpret camping and retreat
ministries to local churches, guests, parents, and campers.
*Relates to people of all ages, races, backgrounds, and skill levels.
*Administrative and supervisory ability and experience.
*Bachelor’s degree and/or work related experience.
Major Responsibilities:
*Establish and maintain an accounting and data collecting system to insure proper
accounting for all monies received and disbursed.
*Maintain statistical data to determine the profit/loss for all areas of the Assembly. This
data is to be made available for review at each SUMA Board of Trustees meeting.
*Promote SUMA among UM churches, other denominations, communities, colleges, high
schools, and other schools through visits and speaking engagements.
*Promote SUMA to become a conference center for groups and churches throughout the
Southeastern Jurisdiction.
*Generate new & maintain existing revenue sources.
*Assure the collection of all fees due for lodging, meals, and other facilities and services.
*Oversee the adherence to the budget as approved by the SUMA Board of Trustees and
assist in the formation of the annual budget to be submitted to the Mississippi Annual
Conference of the United Methodist Church Council on Finance and Administration.

*Supervise the work of all full-time and part-time staff employees.
*Coordinate with the SUMA Board of Trustees in the hiring and dismissal of employees.
*Maintain Holiday, Vacation, Sick Leave and Work Schedules of employees.
*Supervise office personnel ensuring that payroll and appropriate taxes are paid/withheld
and wages are paid accurately.
*Serve as the purchasing agent to ensure the purchase of the best and most economical
materials and equipment are in the best interest of the SUMA and maintained within
budget.
*Oversee the scheduling of events planned at SUMA. This will ensure that all scheduled
events are in keeping with the ideas, beliefs, and standards of Seashore United Methodist
Assembly and the United Methodist Church.
*Supervise the maintenance of all facilities on the grounds of SUMA, assessing the needs
necessary to ensure all guests are welcomed and are ready to have an experience unlike
any other.
*Meet with other MS United Methodist Camp Directors to coordinate our ministries, and
gain support of the Mississippi Annual Conference.
*Attend conferences and conventions, as needed, in support of the Camping Ministries for
educational purposes helping to maintain the standards of the United Methodist Church
Camping Ministry programs.
Evaluation:
